Since the autumn term students in Year 7 & Year 8 have been reading the short list independently and meeting weekly for literacy and cross curricular activities including: contributing to a regional book review blog and a book trailer. The trailer was entered into a competition and judged by British Film Institute charity, Into Film - sadly no prizes for Heron this time.

Attendees from a selection of the 33 participating schools were given motivational advice from the authors who spoke about the importance of: reading and writing from infancy; children and young people seeking help from fiction about real life challenges and experiences; and using children's fiction to raise awareness on social and political issues.
