Woodpecker crowned borough Glee champions!

For the second time in three years, the children have been named the best Glee club in the borough.

Competing at the world famous Hackney Empire theatre, the 30-strong Woodpecker team was up against very stiff opposition - including fellow CHAT school, Cuckoo Hall, the reigning Glee champions.

Headteacher Sharon Parson said: "What an amazing night. I am so proud of the children. They worked incredibly hard with their teachers to pull off an extra-ordinary performance that was simply sensational. As one of the judges said, there really was only one winner."

Although the children were nervous, as soon as they came out onto the big stage and the music started, they hit top form, with all the tireless practice leading up to the final paying off. Everyone did their best, sang and danced with great confidence - and it showed with a set that could hardly have been any better. As soon as the last note was sung and the audience erupted into applause and cheering, Woodpecker knew they were in with a chance of winning.

Deputy head teacher, Michelle Griffin, said:" It was very exciting. The children were absolutely briliant. We have already been invited to sing on stage at the Trust's big Summer Fair on 6 July."

The school also picked up two other awards on the night for their singing prowess and for the most entertaining routine.

There was great excitement in the school today as the large silver trophy was shown to pupils.

We hope to shortly post a video of the performance.

Well done Woodpecker Hall!
