Once upon a time at Woodpecker Hall

Fairy tale day

Year 2 pupils dressed up as fairy tale characters for fairy tale day.

The pupils dressed up as characters from fairy tales such as Snow White, Beauty and the Beast and The 3 Little Pigs.

All pupils were split into four groups with each group having the opportunity to partake in activities linked to a well-known fairy tale.

The fairy activities started with each teacher reading the fairy tale. The fairy tales were Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel, Beauty and the Beast and The Three Little Pigs.

The activity for Goldilocks and the Three Bears stemmed from when Goldilocks tried Daddy Bear's, Mummy Bear's and Baby Bear's porridge. The pupils were given three bowls of porridge to try and they had to figure out which bowl was "just right."

The activity for Hansel and Gretel was linked to the house in the fairy tale being made from cakes and sweets. The pupils were excited to create and decorate their own sweet treats using icing, biscuits and sprinkles.

The activity for Beauty and the Beast was linked to Beauty and the Beast dancing. The pupils learnt how to ballroom dance.

The activity for The Three Little Pigs was linked to the different houses the Big Bad Wolf tries to blow down. The pupils had to make houses from straw, sticks and bricks just like The Three Little Bears.

‘Year 2 took part in a range of activities focused on different Fairy Tales. This was a great and fun way to feed the children’s imagination and inspire them to produce some fantastic writing of their own.’ - Mr Basing
