The Dark Ages come to Cuckoo

'History Off The Page'

Our Year 4s took part in one of the most impressive workshops we have ever seen at the school.

‘History Off The Page’, a group of highly skilled, qualified teachers, that bring to life a selective part of history, put on a daylong event of exceptional quality.

In the morning, the pupils took on everyday tasks in a 9th century village.

They learned skills such as candle making, hand wiring with quill, making necklaces out of tin, making ruin stones and bags to put them in and pottery.

Other children learned how to make elf faces as they were seen as evil spirits, stick candles and weaving to make bracelets.

In the afternoon the pupils looked at the Dark Ages from a historical perspective by using archaeology to discover how we have learned about the historical tasks they performed in the morning.

They dressed up in costumes and found out a huge amount about living in the Dark Ages of the Saxons & Vikings.
