Myleene Klass visits Cuckoo Hall Academy

The children of Cuckoo Hall Academy were excited to see musician, actress, presenter and model, Myleene Klass in school today. Myleene spent three hours with children, parents and teachers to see how the school was supporting parents with its Community Outreach programmes and gave a master class in singing to a very lucky group of children. Cuckoo Hall was selected for the official launch of Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

When Myleene arrived at the school she was greeted by head boy and head girl. The Save the Children ambassador was also welcomed by Headteacher Nicky Ross and CHAT Academies CEO Marino Charalambous.

Myleene was then introduced to Families Connect, a program we run with Save the Children. Parents Jen Kyriacou and Gurjit Chabbra gave their perspective on the impact Save the Children have had on the whole school. This then turned into a conversation about getting your child ready for school in the morning in which Myleene joked “why is there always one shoe missing in the morning?”

Myleene then joined a Families Connect session with four families from the programme. Myleene took part in an exercise designed to get parents and children thinking about stories and language. She answered questions and agreed with a child that she was also a chatterbox.

The talented star then lead an amazing singing workshop in the hall with 30 year 3 pupils. Myleene, who has played the piano from since she was four years old, to the delight of the children, she even showed us how she could play the piano backwards.

Christmas Jumper Assembly

Myleene addressed the year 3s/4s as she spoke about her role as an Ambassador for Save the Children, and how she was promoting Christmas Jumper Day.

Myleene and her ‘Cuckoo Hall choir’, then put on an incredible concert performing Christmas classics such as Jingle Bell Rock and Rocking Around The Christmas Tree. A special moment that everyone in that hall will never forget.

But that wasn’t the end of Myleene's day at Cuckoo Hall. She then gave out our first ever ‘Caught in the act’ award, the schools new initiative to reward great behaviour.

Myleene said:

“The mums I met today told me they’re working long hours often on low incomes and understandably, finding the time or money to buy books and help support their children’s education outside of school can be a real struggle.”

“The Families Connect programme is great because it gives these mums the confidence and resources they need to be able to help their children learn at home and do even better at school."

“It’s helping them to give their children a brighter future, which is really what any parent wants for their child.”
