Exciting day of discovery for Trust children at Heron

Dear Parent/ carer of Year 5 children

An exciting day of discovery for your children at Heron Hall Academy.

I hope your child was able to take part in and enjoyed their day with us at Heron. We didn’t let a little rain get in the way of what was a great day.

Choosing a secondary school is, of course, one of the biggest decisions a parent will ever make. I can still remember thinking very carefully about which would be the best school for my daughter.

We tried to give the children the chance on Wednesday to experience what it might be like if they came to Heron Hall Academy, which is the Secondary school of the small family of schools we are all a part of: North Star Community Trust.

So there were lots of different activities, from taking part in Maths problem-solving and hands-on activities, to creative writing in English and an Art class, to fabulous science experiments in our Mega Lab and the sampling of a variety of sports. Plus a delicious indoor picnic lunch. Overall, it was a great chance for us to get to know the children and for them to get to know us.

We are fortunate to have some of the very best teaching, learning and sporting facilities in London, within a magnificent building and grounds and, most importantly, a brilliant, dedicated team who are passionate about ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed, from the start of Year 7 to when they leave our Sixth Form. We are also able to offer every child that comes in year 7 a Chromebook to aid their learning at home, as part of our commitment to remove barriers to learning and success.

Now is a great time to be joining our school - with national recognition for Heron.

Last year Heron Hall was honoured to receive a Bronze award for ‘UK School of the Year’ in the prestigious Pearson Teaching Awards.

I was also recently humbled to be named the Times ‘UK Headteacher of the Year.’

These awards recognise the quality of the school and the depth of the talent of our teachers. We have a team that is 100% committed to academic excellence and getting results. This is also a school with a culture of pushing the boundaries and creating opportunities for students to develop their understanding of the world outside of Edmonton.
